You might note how Navigator Homes of Martha’s Vineyard fits in with the Martha’s Vineyard Commission’s mission:
The mission of the MVC is twofold: (1.) To assist our region’s 7 towns (Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Gosnold, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, & West Tisbury) with planning expertise; and (2.) Protect and enhance the islands’ environment, economy, character, and social fabric.
Other things to consider are:
- Our project is all about caring for our seniors, who helped build our Island community into what it is today. Our seniors want to stay here and be cared for here, and we should have the best care possible and provide a living community for them.
- Windemere is not sustainable/becoming outdated by Department of Public Health standards – and without a new facility there will be no skilled nursing care for our seniors. Our seniors and their families will be forced to go off Island for care.
- We need the housing not only to provide skilled nursing care staff for our seniors, but we need the housing to operate the hospital. As we expand our services at the hospital, we will need our medical professionals living on the Island to provide that care. This is all about improving and providing patient and senior care for our entire Island community 24/7 – 365.
