Renee Lohman, CEO and President of Navigator Homes of Martha’s Vineyard and the Board of Directors are delighted to announce that Dr. Aliya Browne has accepted a position on the Board of Directors.
Aliya F. Browne, MDiv D.O. FACC Dr. Aliya Browne is a board-certified clinical cardiologist who specializes in integrative cardiology at Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, Oak Bluffs, MA. She received her bachelor’s degree from Temple University and attended New York College of Osteopathic Medicine/New York Institute of Technology, receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a fellowship graduate of University of Arizona in integrative medicine.
Dr. Browne accepted the invitation to join the board, noting her experience in helping her patients and their families navigate complex health care challenges that do not always lend themselves to loved ones aging in place:
“In my job as a cardiologist I see the struggles families have in taking care of their loved ones and having everything they need available to them. I also see my patients who do not want to give up their independence but know that their present homes are not working for them. The Green House Project homes at Navigator Homes of Martha’s Vineyard will be able to address these two scenarios. I want to be involved in any project that will help my patients and families live in this safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment.”
In addition to her medical education and degrees, she brings a wide range of experience in caring for the whole being. She is passionate about caring for the total person, integrating Eastern, Western, and Spiritual practices into one practical prescription for whole body health. A licensed minister, graduating from Princeton Theological Seminary with her Master of Divinity, she serves at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset New Jersey.
She dedicates her medical career to her grandmother who died suddenly from heart disease when Dr. Browne was only thirteen. This had a dramatic impact on her life and has guided her in her specialty path. She is a sought-after lecturer and speaker on women and heart disease, the spiritual practices of medicine, and Christian meditation.
She is the author of Meditating on God’s Word, published July 2017, which teaches how to decompress and grow stronger in one’s relationship with God through meditation. One of her life’s passions is the development of spiritual formation and spiritual practices in others to live longer, stronger healthier lives. She teaches and leads guided meditations classes throughout the year using scripture. She has produced Christian based guided meditation CD’s, Meditations from God for your Heart and RIPE (Holy Spirit Fruit Meditations).
In other activities on the island, she is an active board member of Union Chapel in Oak Bluffs, MA where she presently serves as board president. She also serves on the board of trustees at Martha’s Vineyard Boys and Girls Club.
Dr. Browne is happily married to Reginald M. Browne and is mother to adult fraternal twin children, Alexandrea and Myles, a teenage son, Jabril, and a stepson Quentin. She lives by the scripture “From everyone to whom much has been given, much will be required; and from the one to whom much has been entrusted, even more will be demanded” (Luke 12:48).
